On Thursday (Jan.29), in an Illinois courtroom, a former deputy, Sean Grayson, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting and killing 36-year-old Sonya Massey. Associated Press reports that Judge Ryan Cadigan handed down the “maximum possible sentence” for a second-degree murder conviction. Following his sentencing, Grayson apologized to the court for what occurred between him and Massey. He claims to have made “a lot of mistakes” that night. He continued: “There were points when I should’ve acted, and I didn’t. I froze. I made terrible decisions that night. I’m sorry.” Initially, Grayson’s attorney was looking for a six-year sentence, given that he’s been diagnosed with late-stage colon cancer. “There are no words I can say to take back what the family is feeling. I understand why they are angry. I just hope one day they can be forgiving. I was very unprofessional that night, and the things I said to Sonya Massey were not right,” Grayson added. On the day of the fatal incident, Massey—who apparently suffers from mental health issues—called 911, believing someone was roaming around outside her home. Following a brief verbal altercation between her and Grayson, Massey was gunned down in her kitchen. There have been debates about whether the shooting was racially motivated, given that Massey was black and Grayson, 31, was white. State’s Attorney John Milhiser met with reporters outside of the courthouse, saying, “Sonya Massey’s death rocked her family, but it rocked the community, it rocked the country. We have to do whatever we can to ensure it never happens again.” Massey’s daughter, Summer, also spoke with reporters, and in her opinion, “Twenty years is not enough.”

Ray J’s ongoing health battle has taken a turn for the worse. According to TMZ, along with receiving a bevy of new medications, Ray J could need a heart defibrillator. He told the outlet that doctors have given him just months to live. The singer recently broke his silence about his recent health struggles via social media. “2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” he said in a clip that’s surfaced online. Ray J then went into further detail about the condition of his heart, saying that it’s “mostly black.” In Ray’s opinion, his drug and alcohol usage greatly contributed to the situation he is in now. “I f*cked up,” he continued.” You know why? Boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested Wednesday in South Florida on felony charges tied to an alleged domestic violence incident that authorities say occurred last year. The arrest was carried out by the department’s Special Investigations Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force. Prosecutors have charged Davis with battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. The charges stem from an alleged incident on Oct. 27 at a gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens, where the complainant was employed. Law enforcement officials declined to identify the woman or the business, citing safety concerns. According to police reports, Davis allegedly confronted the woman inside the venue and became physically aggressive. Investigators allege he grabbed her by the back of the head with one hand while placing his other hand around her throat. Police say he then forced her toward a nearby parking garage. Gervonta “Tank” Davis Arrested By U.S. Marshals In Miami’s Design District Authorities said Davis later released the woman, who ran to coworkers for assistance. Officers documented bruising on her left arm following the incident. Investigators said the woman and Davis had known each other since 2022 and were previously in an intimate relationship.
