Rapper Desiigner Arrested on Domestic Violence and Property Charges

Desiigner, known for his chart-topping hit “Panda,” was arrested Wednesday following an alleged domestic dispute involving a hammer and a screwdriver in Horry County.

Authorities took the Brooklyn-born artist, whose legal name is Sidney Royel Selby III, into custody following reports of a violent confrontation at a residence on Arbor Ridge Circle near Conway. According to police records and testimony from an alleged female victim, the incident began as an argument over the removal of television screens from a wall. The encounter reportedly escalated when the rapper allegedly smashed the woman’s phones with a hammer. Witnesses told investigators that the woman fled the home while holding a child to seek help from neighbors. Desiigner allegedly pursued her, threw her to the ground and tossed her purse over a fence. As the situation intensified, the woman and child reportedly sought refuge inside a neighbor’s home, locking themselves in a bathroom.

Police reports suggest the rapper then turned his attention to the surrounding property, allegedly using a hammer and a screwdriver to damage vehicles belonging to the neighbors. Desiigner now faces several serious charges, including second-degree domestic violence. He is also charged with two counts of malicious injury to personal property valued between $2,000 and $10,000, along with one count of malicious injury to personal property valued at less than $2,000.

Each felony count carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison if he is convicted. While a court set a $1,500 bond for one of the property damage charges, bail was reportedly denied for the other counts. This arrest marks the second domestic-related legal issue for the Grammy-nominated artist this year, following a previous arrest on third-degree domestic violence charges in March.

The 27-year-old rapper has faced a string of public legal challenges in recent years, including a highly publicized incident involving indecent exposure on an international flight in 2023. Despite the mounting legal pressure, he has continued to release music, including a recent collaboration with Wiz Khalifa. Desiigner is scheduled to return to court for a hearing regarding these latest charges on Oct. 16.
